The shattered remains of the great hall at Kildrummy Castle, in Aberdeenshire.

Betrayed to the besieging English by the castle blacksmith, the castle was destroyed, and the blacksmith received his reward of gold - melted and poured down his throat.

Stonehenge

Stonehenge, ancient, impressive and horribly neglected by government after government, I see no hope for improvement any time soon. Should you get the chance to visit, go early to avoid the crowds, and then head down the road to see the far more impressive, yet similarly neglected Avebury.

Better yet, head to the far north of Scotland for Callanish, or the circles of Aberdeenshire.
