Castle Acre Priory in Norfolk, England.

Despite being faintly sickened by the grandeur of these ancient abbeys and priories etc. (how many people could you have fed with the money spent on construction?) , I can’t help but admire the craftmanship, and mourn the loss, which was caused by yet more greed.

Glencoe

The brooding Glencoe, scene of the massacre in 1692, where 38 members of the MacIan clan were slain by the Campbells after sharing their hospitality with them. Although a large part of the clan escaped to the mountains, more were to die in the blizzards that swept the area.

This mighty castle near Oban is built upon the basalt plug of an ancient volcano, not unlike Edinburgh Castle.
